My fascination with the rocks of Cape Ann continues. Here, on a very foggy evening with a flat sea, the shoreline of Lanesville shows off its granite boulders and small, reflective, tidal pools.

On a perfect spring morning in the fishing village of Rockport on Cape Ann, Massachusetts, just a few lobster boats are moored in the calm harbor. In June the recreational boats will start showing up—but for now, these protected waters are the exclusive domain of commercial fishermen. The ice cream shops and gift shops on Bearskin Neck are still shuttered, and you can get a parking spot downtown pretty much anywhere you please. Today, a couple of fisherman and their wives are pushing strollers on Main Street. One proud father is boasting about how much his infant likes being on board his boat.

Late winter, snowless forest in Gloucester, Massachusetts

Streetlights and ribbon-like reflections in Gloucester Harbor

Even though the streetlights along the boulevard of Western Avenue in Gloucester, MA are excessively bright, their reflections in the calm harbor do have a magical quality.

Both images made in the last week of winter.

Some days I feel very lucky to be a photographer. Yesterday, I made these images from the roof of a building in downtown Boston. The view was almost as good as flying. The North End looks like a small village, marked by the famous steeple of The Old North Church. In the distance are East Boston, Logan Airport, and the Deer Island waste processing plant.

The Leonard Zakim Bridge crosses the Charles River, joining Boston proper and Charlestown. Easily the most outstanding structure to come out of Boston’s infamous Big Dig construction project, its cable stay design was inspired by Boston’s maritime history. The pointed towers echo the form of the nearby Bunker Hill monument in Charlestown.

These photographs and many others are available for purchase as fine art prints and licensed stock images for commercial use.

Annisqaum Harbor Light

Although I’m frustrated by this winter’s lack of snow, Nordic skiing, and classic winter scenery, the rocky coast is still worth exploring at any time of year.

This lighthouse presides over the rocky northern coast of Cape Ann Massachusetts. The location is fairly inaccessible and is seen by most first time visitors to the area from across the harbor at Wingaersheek Beach.

Bass Rocks, Gloucester, MA

The rocky coastline of Cape Ann might easily be mistaken for Downeast Maine. The boulders along the shore vary in shape from jagged and sharp, to smooth and rounded.

Bass Rocks, on the south-facing shoreline of Cape Ann, reminds me most of Mt. Desert, Maine, several hundred miles away.

These images and many more, are available as collectable fine art prints, or licensed stock photographs.

Tjhe Brooklyn Bridge

On a trip to New York this past weekend I just had to grab this photograph of my favorite bridge. Purists beware: I wasn’t happy with the sky so I added blue sky and clouds from another file using Photoshop layer masks! Do you approve?
