Photo Contest 2015 Photo Contest – Capture the Spirit of Essex County, Massachusetts All photographers are welcome to submit images to the 2015 Essex Heritage Photo Contest that capture the unique character of the Essex National Heritage Area (Essex County) or speak to Essex Heritage’s role in preserving the historic, cultural, and natural places of Essex County. Photographs must be taken within the Essex National Heritage Area (Essex County) and represent one of the three Contest categories listed below. Photo Contest Winner

I learned yesterday that this photograph of the Rough Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary in Rowley, Massachusetts was selected as the Grand Prize winner of a photo contest sponsored by the Massachusetts Audubon Society. The photo was made on December 9, 2012 late in the day, preserving the tonal range by combining 3 separate exposures using HDR (high dynamic range technique). The sanctuary is jointly managed by Mass Audubon and Essex County Greenbelt and encompasses spectacular coastal woodlands, salt marshes, tidal creeks, and salt pannes. Click to visit
